WHAT IS LAVENDER?
Lavender essential oil has been used for centuries due to its many health benefits. The flowering tops of the lavender plant (Lavandula Angustifolia) are steam-distilled to make lavender essential oil. It is arguably the most well-known essential oil. Although it may be common, it's anything but basic when it comes to its many benefits and healing properties. This oil packs a punch as a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antibacterial solution to have on-hand when you need it.
Did you know this ancient oil was used by the Romans and the Egyptians many centuries ago? It was said that upon opening King Tuts tomb, a faint smell of lavender was detected after thousands of years. Lavender essential oil was used by the Romans for bathing, purifying the air and even cooking. It is referenced in the Bible as being used for healing and anointing purposes as well.

VARIETIES
In our face and body balms, we use USDA-certified organic, non-GMO, sustainably harvested lavender and lavender fine essential oils. Both varieties are considered safe for pregnancy, nursing, kids, and pup & pony.
LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL
Steam-distilled from the flowering tops of the lavender plant, it's herbaceous, floral aroma has a calming effect to the mind and body. When used in skincare, lavender has a soothing effect with cleansing properties to support healthy skin -- which is why we chose to include it in our HINT Face & Body Balm (and Blue Tansy which is a seasonally offered balm).
LAVENDER FINE ESSENTIAL OIL
Lavender Fine is also steam-distilled but from a high-altitude lavender plant with a shorter growing season than the standard lavender. (This oil comes at a higher price point.) These conditions produce a sweeter, more refined scent than the traditional lavender essential oil. Lavender Fine is also revered for its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines, dark spots (hyperpigmentation) and scars. PRO TIP
When reviewing product ingredients, check that the essential oil is pure and sustainably harvested. Reports validating purity should also be available on an essential oil company's website. Ideally, selecting essential oils that are USDA-certified organic is a plus as well (#readyourlabels). The USDA-Certified Organic label ensures the oil does not contain any GMOs, synthetic fertilizers or harmful pesticides.
