WHAT IS TALLOW?

Simply stated, suet is the hard fat that surrounds the kidneys and loins of a cow. Tallow is made by rendering (heating) the suet and removing any small bits of meat that may be present. You are now left with rendered fat that is extremely versatile. Tallow is nutrient-dense and is excellent for skin care and topical applications with healing properties our skin easily recognizes and assimilates.

This fat source was once used by our ancestors for natural skin care, wound healing, cooking, and more (nose-to-tail practices). Up until recently, this fat was simply a byproduct in the mainstream beef industry and is in a state of rediscovery as we familiarize ourselves with its beneficial properties.

It was and also still serves as a very healthy fat source that provides significant nutritional benefits in today’s modern world.

PREMIUM QUALITY

The grass-fed, grass-finished, pasture-raised beef tallow that we use in all Good & Simple Face & Body Balms is our primary ingredient. This tallow is rendered from cows raised on small Midwest farms that practice regenerative and sustainable farming. This premium quality tallow has a more nutrient-dense profile when compared to tallow from conventionally-raised cows.

GRASS-FED + GRASS-FINISHED + PASTURE-RAISED

Let's take a minute to define the terms we're using as we know this can be a bit confusing.

• Grass-fed = a cow ate grass for most of their life, but not necessarily their entire life. If this is the only attribute, they may be fed grain in the last few months of life to increase weight.
• Grass-finished = a cow ate grass their whole life - to the very end. No grain or fillers of any kind were included as a part of their diet (or in the last few months to fatten them up).
• Pasture-raised = a cow raised grazing freely on acres of pasture.

When all three qualifiers are combined, you have a premium grade fat source from a cow that was fed their optimal diet and had the most ideal living conditions.
